For our monthly dining experience, we were in the mood for a friendly and casual sit-down restaurant, and Fork came to mind. Nestled in the heart of downtown Boise, this charming restaurant offers a delightful blend of local flavors and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The first good thing about this establishment was the inability to choose a dish, as the whole menu sounded terrific! My only hope for this dining experience is that it is better than our previous months’ exclusive review. With their website noting that they are committed to sourcing as many critical ingredients from local Boise and Northwest sources as possible, my hopes are high for this downtown gem.

The Order
- Asparagus ‘Fries’
- Grilled King Salmon Sammy
- Roasted Huli-Huli Chicken
- The BCS
- BAM Sammy
- Fork’s Signature Warm Butter Cake
And no I didn’t eat all of this by myself!
The Starter

For a starter, we got the Asparagus ‘Fries, which were noted as ‘addictive’ on the menu. The ‘fries’ came out in a decent portion, enough to satisfy this party of four. The breading around the asparagus was nice and crispy (I couldn’t stop eating the crispy crumbles that flaked off). The addition of salt resulted in the perfect starter.
The Entrees

Next came the entrees, and oh, my, they looked divine. The grilled king salmon sammy was perfect! The perfectly flakey salmon and the mixture of pickled onions and dijon remoulade made for a delectable sandwich. This sammy came with a bag of fresh chips that were too greasy and flavorless. I recommend getting the truffle fries as a side with this sandwich instead.
I had the Roasted Huli-Huli Chicken for my entree. The sauce was terrific, with the flavor of the pineapple and the sweetness of brown sugar coming through with every bite. I wish I could bottle up this sauce and throw it on everything. It was that good. This dish had the chicken on top of grits and four whole carrots. The grits took on the flavor of the huli-huli sauce really well and paired nicely with the chicken. The carrots were a different story and could have benefited from an extra 5 minutes of cooking. Overall, this was a great dish, and I would order again just for more huli-huli sauce.
The Dessert

Finally, we had the Fork’s Signature Warm Butter Cake for dessert. How signature is this? It was so good. I want to return it just for this cake. The cake came to the table nicely, warm, and melted in your mouth, causing you to fall in love at the first bite. The freshness of the berry medley surrounding the butter cake and the berry coulis coated made the perfect dessert to end the night.
The Conclusion
Was this better than last month’s voyage through the Boise food scene? Most Definitely. Were the Asparagus Fries as addicting as advertised? No, but the butter cake for sure was. Did I ever get a steak knife to cut my carrots? No, I survived. Will I be coming back for more? For sure!
Fork’s “Loyal to Local” mission emphasizes sourcing ingredients and beverages locally, supporting sustainable options and local economies. By choosing local, they offer fresher products and reduce environmental impact, fostering a stronger connection with their community and promoting a sustainable food system. This approach is something more places should consider adopting.
